What I do, and how it goes
Half a day in your home
The best first step, and for some houses the only step you need.
I come to the house and we walk through every room you care about. We talk about color, furniture, window treatments, lighting, layout, and whatever is quietly driving you crazy. I bring paint decks, fabric, and opinions.
You leave with a written list of what I would do, in what order, and roughly what it would take. You can do it yourself, hire a painter, or hand it back to me. Either is fine; the advice is yours.
A room, a floor, or the whole house
For when the room needs to be rethought, not just refreshed.
I measure and draw the space, then plan it properly: where the furniture goes, how people move through it, what gets stored where, and how the light works in the evening. Old houses have odd walls, low ceilings, and doors in inconvenient places; planning is how they stop fighting you.
Then I furnish it. Every piece is chosen for the plan, specified with finishes and fabrics, and presented to you as one room, so you can see the whole thing before anything is ordered.
From order to install day
Finding the right pieces, and getting them into the house without you lifting a finger.
Some of what goes into a room comes from makers whose names you know. A lot of the best of it does not: the upholsterer in Kittery, the dealer with the good Federal chests, the workroom that will remake a sofa properly. I know where to look, and I handle the ordering, the tracking, the deliveries, and the returns.
On install day I am in the house, hanging the last mirror and moving the lamp six inches to the left.
The same four steps, whether it is one room or the whole house. You will always know which one we are on.
Step 1
We meet at the house. You tell me what works and what does not. I tell you what I see.
Step 2
Measured drawings, a layout, and a palette. You approve the plan before anything is chosen.
Step 3
Furniture, fabric, lighting, and finishes, presented room by room, then ordered.
Step 4
Everything arrives, gets placed, and gets moved until it is right. Then you live in it.
Ask me at the first conversation. Once I have seen the house and we have agreed on what it needs, I can give you a real number for your real house rather than a range that means nothing.
